Which direction is our painting biz heading for?

RMB is being pushed to appreciate without any break under constant pressure from US,
real estate and stock market get over-heated by creating foams and driving people to
madly purchase houses stocks, as well as overwhelming export of the made-in-China,
all of which are repeating the history of Japan in its 1980’s. The role of plant of the
world was shifted from Japan to China, now, where the next destination of world plant
will be?
Oil painting business, a tiny wave of the sea of export from China, which direction will it
go? Where shall we as a molecule of this industry go? In other words, what are you
expecting painting suppliers in China to supply?
My answer is, QUALITY PAINTINGS.
South and East Asia is by all means rising up as potential world plant. In
painting/reproduction industry, their progress is substantial also. India, Thailand,
Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia are competing China with their cheaper labor,
considering painting doesn’t require too much raw resource. Upon soon coming
appreciation of RMB up to 1/7-1/6.5 USD per yuan, it is estimated that 30-50% of low-
end paintings/reproduction/portrait will be produced from such area. The only Ace card
of China is its still poverty-stricken area where labor is as cheap as the one from South
and East Asia.
Now it is time for arts to become real arts. Concentration, delicate, sensitive, dextrous,
artistic, careful, more detailed color/light-shadow transition and even nice signature are
all becoming necessary. For business, honesty, creditability, integrity and good
command of English, either communication or writing, arts-like perfect packaging and
value-added nice service, become a must also, let along not to cheat customers by
providing fake printed paintings without advance notice.
I guess all such changes will keep happening in recent 2 years and I guess the shift of
mass production of low-end paintings to South and East Asia will be within recent 2-3
years. For the latter, let us be conservative due to large population of China. But
anyway, Japan has too, and it was forced to change at last.
It is always interesting to forecast future. And what are your comments?
